DUBAKELLA 2011 ZINFANDEL TRINITY COUNTY
Grown just upstream of Hyampom, CA at 1450' ft elevation. This amazing little 1 acre vineyard is located just above the South Fork of the Trinity River, planted on an old alluvial streambed that is strewn with rocks. Our friend George tends these grapes by himself all year long, and the love that he puts into his vines becomes apparent in the bottle. I never would have thought to plant Zin in his location but he was right. Year after year they prove to be amazingly unique, structured wines that really stand out. Farmed 100% organically.
Our first vintage from George's vineyard. We're really excited about the wine, more every time we drink it actually. I would estimate that i've personally consumed over 100 bottles of this wine; it's my go to and just keeps seducing me. With almost 5 years in the bottle now it is really coming into its own. Bold fruit and bright acidity, a combination that I have really begun to appreciate. If you haven't pulled the trigger on this one yet, now would be the time to do it. We've made it, cellared it, and regularly evaluated it for you. We're telling you this wine is beginning to sing. This isn't just regular Zin. Believe us. Also this wine was fermented whole cluster, stems and all. The stems were so ripe, and tasted so good that they needed to stay. That must be a contributing factor to the brilliance (IMHO) of this wine.
Deep garnet in color, the aromas really jump from the glass. Brambly red and black raspberries, cranberry, and cherry pie with earthier notes of conifer forest, mint, pepper, leather...Once you wrap your mouth around your hit with more raspberry and tart cherry, firm but integrating acidity and a soft, gripping mouthfeel that lingers and highlights the freshness of the fruit. I really feel that this wine is still a baby. It is going to be improving for years to come so keep track of it's evolution by enjoying it regularly over time.
