DUBAKELLA 2014 ZINFANDEL - TRINITY COUNTY
DUBAKELLA 2014 ZINFANDEL - TRINITY COUNTY
Well here we have it. Another vintage from George's little vineyard in Hyampom. This 2014 is our fourth vintage from his place and this wine is just full of unexpected twists every year. It is always a textbook zin but it is totally unique from zins grown in any other region that im familiar with. It is a singular example of the varietal regardless of vintage: the terroir is unmistakably Hyampom. You may not know what that means yet but will understand once its in your glass.
We've been drinking this wine for afew weeks now trying to get to know it. After having gone through about a case now I think that I can say that we have been well acquainted. Typical of this wine year after year, floral aromas of violet and lilac leap from the glass underscored by red raspberries, anise, mint, pepper, cedar, and toast. As you drink it just more fresh and jammy red fruit (strawberry, raspberry, and cherry) and grapefruit zest with notes of fir, pine, and wild fennel that remind you that this 1 acre vineyard is boxed in on all sides by of millions of acres of forest. The mouth feel resulting from the bright acid and long silky tannins coats every corner of your mouth and ties the whole wine together. The finish goes on and on and as you near the end it is punctuated with a salty minerality that I really like, alot. All being said it is another amazingly unique but still typical example of this little vineyard and a fine successor to the previous vintages.
