2013 Grenache Sierra Foothills 'walled vineyard'

from $85.00

Grown at the “walled vineyard”, West of Loomis, CA and just above Folsom Lake. This is the same site that our 2013 Petite Sirah came from. The soils there are a rocky loam that is mainly granite based with random chunks of quartz scattered. The terroir of the vineyard is quite unique for the area. Were only realizing now, in 2018 as we release this wine, what this site is really capable of. More affirmation that in making wine, it can really take a long time to truly understand the site you are working with, and its true potential.

76% Grenache and 24% Petite Sirah. 46 cases produced. Some wines take longer to come together in the bottle than others, this one really took its time. Bottled 2 years ago, we are only releasing it right now as it is ready to drink! The Petite make its mark on this blend by adding just enough of its muscle to the more delicate Grenache. It gives the wine more dark fruit while also reinforcing the tannin structure with out overpowering the beauty of the Grenache which is all its red fruit and layers of subtle and unexpected flavors. They balance and compliment each other to perfection here.

  • deep ruby-garnet color. Ripe plum and blackberry fruit on the nose backed by molasses with notes of grapefruit, lavender, and anise seed. It coats your mouth, gripping onto it, pepper, spice; flavors of blackberry syrup, blueberry skins, plum, and ripe strawberrys with chocolate, blackstrap molasses, lavender, anise and sappy, smoky vein. Grippy tannins coat your mouth and work with the acidity, which ramps up in the finish, sweet and peppery, lingering on. Saturating with a sweet-spicy-earthy balance.
