2011 MERLOT SONOMA MOUNTAIN
It has been quite afew years since we have released a new Merlot. Well that is all in the past now, because the 2011 Sonoma Mountain Merlot is here! Grown 500 feet up Sonoma Mountain on rocky, well drained soils, this is the first merlot we've ever made from anywhere in Sonoma County. We love a mountain grown merlot that really achieves full ripeness, nothing like that mountain character coupled rich, juicy ripeness you more commonly get on the valley floor.
In the glass a dark, opaque ruby color sets the tone as the aromas begin to smack you down. Cherry liqueur, crushed flowers, anise extract, caramel, lavender, cocoa...the nose just keeps expanding. Once past your lips, chewy, bright cherry on and on with plum, black licorice, juniper berry, chocolate, leather, and more that is completely enveloped by its mouth coating levels of extract. Just smooth enough tannins with balanced, integrated acids it is all melting together to create one hell of a drinking experience. The time to drink it is now through 2030 I would say.
